When to use
Use imde:packagingInfo when the target holds the packaging dossier of an item, for systems that need to assess, store or report on that packaging. Typical users are the Manufacturer signing the EU Declaration of Conformity, contract manufacturers maintaining technical documentation, retailers, compliance portals, PIM systems and EPR reporting tools.
Where the link can start
- A Packaging System identifier, for example ANSI MH10.8.2 Data Identifier 31B:
https://prodigi.link/31B/VTA-MPLA-PS-2YJNU8QA. The link points to the dossier of that Packaging System. - A GTIN of a sales unit or transport unit (GS1 Digital Link,
/01/). The link points to the Packaging System or Packaging Systems that this unit runs on.
What the target contains
- EU Declarations of Conformity: one per Manufacturer, for the Packaging System and the 1..N sales units and transport units that run on it.
- Technical documentation: the proof of conformity, including evidence files such as test reports, supplier declarations and calculations.
- Packaging composition: packaging elements, materials and composite materials, with form-related attributes (such as packaging type, dimensions and weight) and material-related attributes (such as material type and recycled content).
The target uses the packaging categories of the PPWR: sales packaging, grouped packaging, transport packaging and e-commerce packaging.
When not to use
- For consumer-facing sorting and recycling guidance, use
gs1:sustainabilityInfo. - For general product master data, use
gs1:masterData. - For a certificate on its own, use
gs1:certificationInfo.

Notes for implementers
- In linksets and HTTP headers, always use the full URI
https://imde.io/voc/packagingInfo. The compact formimde:packagingInfois accepted in thelinkTypequery parameter by resolvers that have theimde:prefix configured. - Conformant resolvers must recognise all
gs1:link types and may add other namespaces. This term is designed to sit next to the GS1 Web Vocabulary. - If GS1 publishes an equivalent link type, this term will be declared equivalent to it and will keep resolving.
- This URI is permanent. Its meaning will not change; any extension is published as a new term.
