IMDE Vocabulary

About this vocabulary

The IMDE Vocabulary gives each IMDE term a permanent web address (URI). Systems can use these URIs to name the same concept in the same way, and anyone can look a URI up to read what it means.

It extends the GS1 Web Vocabulary and does not repeat its terms. Each IMDE link type is a sub-property of gs1:linkType, so it belongs to the same family as gs1:pip, gs1:dpp and the other GS1 link types.

Link types

A link type says what kind of information a link leads to. In a GS1-Conformant Resolver it lets an app ask for exactly the information it needs, for example ?linkType=imde:packagingInfo.

Using IMDE link types in a resolver

GS1-Conformant Resolvers must recognise all gs1: link types and may support other namespaces. To support IMDE link types, a resolver:

treats imde:packagingInfo and https://imde.io/voc/packagingInfo as the same link type;
writes the full URI in linksets and HTTP Link headers, and accepts the compact form in the linkType query parameter;
declares the namespace in its resolver description file at /.well-known/gs1resolver:

Persistence and change policy

Term URIs are permanent. The meaning of a published term does not change; an extension is published as a new term.
A term that is replaced is marked deprecated and keeps resolving, with a pointer to its replacement.
If GS1 publishes an equivalent term, the IMDE term is declared equivalent to it (owl:equivalentProperty) and keeps resolving.
