Sales Packaging (SP)
Definition: Packaging (one or more packaging elements) applied directly to a product (consumable, disposable or durable) so that it can be protected, handled, stored, and presented at the point of sale as an [[Supply_Chain_Unit_-_TX|Individual Sales Unit (ISU)]. Sales Packaging is the total set of packaging elements of the smallest unit that can be purchased in commerce by the end user or consumer.
Examples:
- An aluminium can with printed decor that can contain 330ml of beverage
- A flexible bag with printed decor that can contain 90 dishwashing tabs (the consumable product)
- A carton with printed decor, enclosing a laminate tube with in-mould label and cap used for toothpaste
- A smartphone retail box with printed decor, containing the smartphone and accessories such as a USB cable

Grouped Packaging (GP)
Definition: Additional packaging (one or more packaging elements) intended to group one or more Individual Sales Unit (ISU) Sales Units (ISU) for presentation, handling, or sale, without requiring unpacking at the point of purchase. Grouped packaging can be removed without affecting the product itself. It serves a commercial or marketing function.
Examples:
- A plastic or paper clip that bundles together 6 cans of beer as a multipack
- A printed carton box that holds 4 flexible bags, each with 90 dishwashing tabs (year pack)
- A starter kit carton with printed decor that groups 3 smart lightbulbs and a hub into a single retail bundle

Transport Packaging (TP)
Definition: Additional packaging (one or more packaging elements) applied to facilitate handling, transport, and distribution of multiple Individual Sales Units (ISU), Grouped Sales Units (GSU), or Transport Stock Units ((TSU)), preventing damage during the supply chain. Not intended for direct sale to end users.
Examples:
- A neutral corrugated outer carton containing 12 toothpaste cartons (ISUs) that is unpacked in store so individual ISUs can be placed on shelf
- A corner board and stretch film applied around a stacked pallet of beverage cases to protect edges and stabilize the load
- Layer pads placed between tiers of cartons to prevent crushing during transport

Delivery Packaging (DP)
Definition: Additional packaging used to deliver orders directly to the end user, including e-commerce and last-mile distribution. This category also covers service packaging applied during order fulfillment or provision of services.
Examples:
- A paper mailing bag used to ship an online apparel order of one T-shirt and two polos
- A corrugated shipping carton filled with protective paper cushioning to deliver two kitchenware product bought in webshop
- A shrink-wrap film applied around a mixed pallet composed in cross-docking for back of store delivery.
- A paper bag used for a home delivery or take away order.
PPWR Mapping:
